Area Police
Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police report they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Police then found multiple other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police say initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the public for tips.
A senior political figure said the attack made him without words and required to be addressed quickly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
